Dating is an Important and Extremely Discriminatory Process — As it should be! by Tom Chapman
Think about it. Who you meet and want to have a long-term loving relationship with, is and should be a very discriminatory process!
Think about how that person will impact your life in a multitude of ways including your family. Think about the amount of time (your most precious possession) you will spend speaking, kissing, loving, helping, supporting , sharing, arguing, etc.
I believe that people who have the most in common, not that “opposites attract” mentality, are most likely to succeed in having a long-term loving relationship.
Pretend for example, that you grade a potential relationship from zero to 100 based on how well you connect on each of these five levels. Spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally, and sexually. No, sexual should not be first on the list, the heat wears down to a simmer over time.
What happens is that we all make some compromises. Maybe he or she is less than 100% on some levels. Over time those compromises grow. So, if they were a 65 for example on one level, that becomes a 30 or 40 over time. Which also means you should not make big compromises because they will likely bite you in the ass some time down the road.
So, yes it should be a very discriminatory process and it is wise not to make any huge compromises. As I said, the more you have in common the better the relationship will be for long-term success.
